i wrote the first wedding special in august of last year, and in case you're concerned that it's much too early for another of these, this is more of a retrospective/reflection.
however,
i won't insult you by pretending that i'm not trying to plant some ideas for a real sequel.
weddings are a funny thing. i've always thought i would get married someday, and i think i still will.
well. maybe not "legally".
it's a romantic thought and a desire you feel to your core when you're in love: I want to celebrate this in front of the people who mean the most to us. i really do feel that with both my partners. two weddings? c'mon i'm lucky i love the spotlight, that sounds like a horrifying amount of attention.
even if you're not the one getting married and you're just a guest, there are all these embedded rituals, social and emotional things to remind you that "this too, could be yours someday!"
so I'm sorry I can't go with you to this one.
whether or not you spend the day imagining me by your side, or waiting in the aisle for you, i hope you have fun, i hope you don't miss me too much. i'll miss you a little, but we'll have plenty of years together to alienate our friends by asking for +2's at their weddings.
I'm yours and you're mine.
last august i felt torn between two worlds that could never touch. now i'm quite comfortable in the best of both. i was so uncertain, but now i've never been more sure of my place in things. there's so much to celebrate. wanna try someday?
